Jailbreaking is to the iOS (iPhone and iPad) what is Rooting is to the Android. Apple’s iOS is a very closed ecosystem. When you buy an iPhone, you can only install apps from the Apple App Store. By default, the iPhone and iPad are restricted to what the user can do in terms of functionality and accessibility. While most of the iOS users would be happy with Apple ecosystem, some may want to take full control of their iPhone.
This is made possible by Jailbreak. Jailbreak allows the iOS users to bypass the restrictions put up by Apple. You can access the file system, install third-party apps that are not available on the App Store, customize the iPhone with latest tweaks and more.
The advantage of a Jailbroken iOS Device
- Jailbroken device can install apps that are not available on Apps Store.
- You can tether your iPhone, and iPad use it as WiFi Hotspot for other devices.
- Customize your iPhone and iPad to a whole new level with an excellent collection of themes from Cydia.
- Access to iOS File system allows you to install SSH clients making the connection and data transfer secure.
With all the pros there are some cons as well. The biggest of all is the threat of unsecured and untrusted third-party apps that can hack or crack your device. It also involves the risk of voiding iPhone’s warranty – Apple’s users cannot claim warranty for Jailbroken device. To claim the warranty, you first need to unjailbreak the iPhone by reinstalling the firmware.
