Do note that aside from the connection speed, most people would like to put their VPN control on the taskbar. Fortunately, you can basically display the VPN on taskbar as well. So, you can pin it VPN app icon on Windows taskbar, with such an easy process. This feature is usually included in the VPN programs you choose, so best to pick the reputable ones to get the full functionality and benefits.

Plus, high speed doesn’t always necessarily mean it’s safer. If you want to stay safe when browsing online, we highly recommend using a VPN service, the more reputable the better

Bak to our main topic, here we have multiple software choices, TrafficMonitor, NetSpeedMonitor, and Net Speed Meter.

TrafficMonitor

The first tool on the list is TrafficMonitor. With this software, you can easily display the connection speed on the Windows Taskbar. Before asking how to use it, we’ll explain how to get it in the first place.

TrafficMonitor can be downloaded right from the MajorGeek’s official website. Once you downloaded the file, extract the data into a folder you can easily find. Open the files, and check the executable file.

Click it, and let the installation process run. Just press Yes when a window prompt appears.

Once the app is properly installed, you can see the connection speed right away from the main window. The upload and download speeds will be displayed here.

To show it on the taskbar, you’ll have to activate the option first. Once you click the option, the connection speed information will be displayed on the taskbar. As you’ll see that both the taskbar and main window are displaying the same thing, you can simply hide the main window.

To do so, click the taskbar window, and uncheck Show Main Window.

NetSpeedMonitor

The next choice of software we have here is NetSpeedMonitor. This app can be installed on the previous Windows version like XP, 2003, Vista, and 2007 normally. So if you install it on Windows 10 or above, you’ll likely receive the error message saying that the OS is not supported.

However, there’s a workaround for this, which is by enabling the compatibility mode. To start using it, you can download the software package on Softpedia. You can download either the 32-bit or 64-bit version, so pick accordingly.

After the download, you may receive the installation package to install NetSpeedMonitor on your desktop. Don’t forget to activate the compatibility mode by opening the properties and checking the mode option.

Then, you can start installing the software on your device. Simply double-click it, and the file will be automatically installed. After the installation is done, the connection speed won’t be displayed on the taskbar by default. So, you’ll need to activate the feature first by right-clicking the taskbar choosing the taskbar option, and then NetSpeedMonitor.

Use “Net Speed Meter” App from the Microsoft Store

Last but not least, you can also use an app called Net Speed Meter, which is downloadable from Microsoft Store. Similar to the other options above, this tool is also free to download. All you need to do is to visit the Store, look for the app, and download it from there.

Once you open the tool for the first time, you’ll be asked to keep the tool running on the taskbar. As that’s what our purpose is, choose the answer “Yes”. If you choose the option, you’ll see that the NetSpeed Meter will be displayed on the bottom right of the taskbar. Here you can see the connection speed for both upload and download.

Other than putting it on the taskbar, you can also drag and drop it to any place on your desktop. You can put it in the top middle of the desktop, which is generally the most comfortable position, or anywhere you like.

With the tools we’ve explained above, you can see the constantly changing internet speed right from the taskbar. As you know now, it’s not that hard to display the connection speed on a desktop. What you need is just the proper tool to get the job done.
