Evernote is probably the best note taking the app for Android and iOS devices. I would have said it is the best note taking the app, but the recent development may have made it a bit less attractive due to the pricing and feature limitation in the free version. Nonetheless, I still use Evernote, and if you use Evernote too, then you know it helps you to be more productive.
That being said, there are more ways to use Evernote and make the most out of your time. After all, time is money, and if it is not for you, you can always spend the saved time with your family or binge-watching your favorite shows on TV. Irrespective of how you would spend your spare time, here are the 5 ways to get productive with Evernote.
1. Evernote Web Clipper Extension
While browsing the internet, you may come across something important or interesting that you wish to add to Evernote. However, taking notes on your phone or PC for every interesting bit you find on the internet is a time-consuming task. Evernote offers a Google Chrome extension called Web Clipper to make this task easier.
Web Clipper allows you to save page-articles or selected bits from the articles directly to Evernote. The extension works on all the website that you can access using the Chrome browser.
You can install the Web Clipper extension from the Chrome store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions. Once installed, you can access it from the toolbar (top-right of the Chrome screen).
Whenever you come across an interesting bit of instruction while browsing the internet and if you want to save it to Evernote, click the Web Clipper icon and select the Clip format. There are several clip formats including Article, full page, bookmark, screenshot, etc. Select any clip format and then choose the area that needs to be clipped/saved.
If you want to save an article, keep Clip Format as Article, but if you’re going to capture a screenshot, select Screenshot and then specify the area that you wish to capture.
Once the format is selected, click Save Clip button. The saved clip will be synced to your Evernote account provided that you are logged into your Evernote account.
The screenshot feature in Web Clipper is impressive, to say the least. Even if you don’t want to use Evernote, you may install Web Clipper extension just for screenshot capture feature available in the extension. After taking a screenshot you can pixelate the selected area, add doodles, add text and save it to your Evernote account.
2. Use Siri to Take Notes
If you are an iOS user, then you might be familiar with Siri. The virtual voice assistant can do a lot of things, and its integration with Evernote allows you to take notes with voice command. Well, you can always record voice using Evernote, but that is not what I am talking about here.
You can ask Siri to note down your shopping list while you are making breakfast. Or add a to-do list to Evernote on your iOS device. Same goes for Amazon Echo as well. Using Siri to take notes in Evernote is easy. All you have to do is wake up Siri, and ask it to create a new note with a title followed by the note (message).
Hey Siri, create a note in Evernote called Article ideas.
“Add, best notes taking apps to my Articles ideas note in Evernote”.
Evernote also perfectly integrates with Apple Watch. It also works with Amazon Echo and Alexa devices, but the features are limited as of now. Evernote is also trying to offer integration with Google virtual voice assistant in future.
3. Record While You Write
If you are a student you will appreciate the recording feature Evernote has on offer. You can record the lecture during class on Evernote. What’s more? You can even add notes while the recording is still in progress. This can be also helpful for professionals who may want to record the meeting with their clients but also add extra notes alongside.
To start recording in Evernote, do the following.
Create a new note in Evernote by tapping the + icon at the bottom. Works with existing notes as well.
Select Audio option from the list of options.
Evernote will start recording the audio now. If you want, you can continue to write notes using the keyboard as well.
To, stop the recording, the tap the Stop button on the top and the audio will be saved to the note.
Do note that the continuous recording time difference based on the plan you are using. The free version offers 25MB limit while the premium customers can record upto 250 MB per note.
4. Automate the task with IFTTT and Zapier
IFTTT is a productivity app that works differently. However, the good thing is, both these apps also come with Evernote integration. If you don’t know what IFFT Zappier do, let me give a brief introduction.
IFTTT (If this, then that) – As the name suggests, it is an app that automates some repetitive tasks that you perform daily and helps your smartphone work together with other smart devices and apps.
So, if you have a bunch of smart lights at home, and if you want to turn it on as soon you arrive home daily, you can automate this process through IFTTT, which uses small commands known as Applets to perform the task.
IFTTT also works with Evernote. You can use IFFT to create a note on Evernote through Google assistance quickly, automatically sync starred emails in Gmail to Evernote, Sync new notes in a notebook to Google Drive and many more without ever having to do it manually.
Apart from IFTTT, Evernote also works with Zapier. Zapier works similarly to IFTTT and supports over 1000+ apps. The app helps you automate tasks related to others apps eliminating the need to perform them manually and saves time.
5. Send Files to Evernote Over Email
A lot of Evernote user don’t know that their Evernote account includes a personal email address. Using the email address, you can send a note to Evernote over the email.
You can find your Evernote email address by navigating to Tools > Account Info on PC. For Android users, open Evernote, tap the three dots on the top right side and select Settings. Go to Account Info and scroll-down to Evernote email.
The use? If you want to add an important email to Evernote, then you can forward it to Evernote as email. You can also set reminders directly through email, or add notes to a specific Notebook with @ symbol before Notebook name. You can check the example in the below image.
