Sony launched the Remote Play or R-Play service for its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro users last year. The service allows the PlayStation users to remotely play PlayStation games on iPhone and iPad. The service is also available for the Windows and Mac users. Now if you own an iPhone or iPad and a PS 4, here is how to download and install PS4 Remote Play (R-play) on iOS.
The R-Play app is available in the App store for $9.99 and offers the remote play functionality on iOS running devices such as iPhone and iPad. The app also offers on-screen controllers just in case you don’t get the dual-shock controllers to work to be able to play the games. In addition, if you have an Apple-certified MFi gaming controller, you don’t need to use the on-screen controller to play the games.
The R-Play app works similar to what we have seen on Windows and Mac Remote Play app. Having the ability to play PS 4 games on an iPhone and iPad is great when you don’t have access to the TV, thanks to the guest at your home. But, it is also necessary that you have right set of equipment to be able to use R-Play.
The user should have the PS 4 or PS 4 Pro connected to the router via the LAN cable and your iPhone connected to the WiFi network. You can also connect to R-Play via internet in case you are away from home.
PS 4 users can run the games at 720p resolution max whereas the PS4 Pro users can run the games at 1080p resolution max with 60 fps.
Features of R-Play for iOS
- Play PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro games on iOS devices (iPhone and iPad).
- 1080p – 60 fps support for PS 4 Pro players.
- Play on the go over the internet.
- On-screen Controls for the better gaming experience.

- No repetitive setup procedure. Set it up once and enjoy the gaming on the go.
Here is how to download and install Remote Play on iOS for iPhone and iPad. You can control the profile and video frame rate from the R-Play profile settings. R-Play also supports “control customization” by allowing the user to change the size of the controls.
Install PS4 Remote Play on iOS
Open App Store on the iPhone or iPad and search for R-Play.
The app costs $9.99 on App Store. Proceed with the installation of the app.
Once the app is installed, launch the R-Play app.
Enter your PSN account details to log in to PlayStation Network account.
Next, you may need to follow some on-screen process to sync iPhone / iPad with the PS4.
That’s it. Now you can enjoy playing your favorite PS 4 games on the iPhone and iPad on the go.
In our testing, the R-Play worked great with little hiccups here and there for fast-paced games. The app may not be the cheapest at $10, but it is certainly worth the price if you like the remote play feature it has on offer.
